Dedication ~ The Singing Order Boy

What you are about to read is a true story about an amazing and talented man, who is also my father and founder of Talent Incorporated Worldwide.  This tribute is for him.

This story starts in New York City - more specifically "Tin Pan Alley".  For those of you who are not familiar with it, let me explain.  In the 1930's, 40's, and 50's Tin Pan Alley was the place on the East Coast for hopeful songwriters to "pitch" their originals to major and minor record labels and music publishers that were located in the city.  All the major labels at that time were located in Tin Pan Alley, known as the place where "hits were born."

Let me step back for a moment.  My father, Ted Rosen, grew up in a suburb of Boston, Mass called Roxbury, a tough neighborhood just outside the city.  Motivated by necessity, Ted always worked hard for his large family selling apples on Boston Common and working as a delivery boy for a small market for many years.  With a smile on his face and his head up in the clouds - writing new songs every day - Ted soon became known as the "Singing Order Boy" as he sang his original songs along his delivery route.

A hardworking boy with bigger-than-life ambitions to be a professional songwriter, Ted found himself writing more and more songs and his ambitious "Live for the Dream" attitude eventually landed him in NYC's Tin Pan Alley ready to persue his dream!  Working mundane jobs to sustain himself, Ted stayed afloat and continued writing new songs and making appointments to pitch them to the record labels and publishers headquartered there.

His uncompromised talents and ambitious nature led him to accomplish a few record deals and releases with moderate success.  Then his first "big break" came when Decca Records approached him to write a children's song, which he did in 20 minutes!  This song is called "Herkimer The Homely Doll" and was released as a 45.  It ran up the Billboard charts and grew to be the #1 children's song in America in 1957!  An uncompromised success based on talent and dedication to his art.  With his talents as a songwriter and with a unique art for writing "hit style songs", Ted Rosen eventually landed four more releases.

It also bears mention that Ted, in the early 60's, won "Best Song" out of thousands of entries on a national TV show called "Songs for Sale".  The song is titled "What's Your Name", another children's hit that was sung by Rosemary Clooney and enjoyed by millions across the nation.  It's a very popular camp song and is available here on HitSongRadio.  Check it out, you might already recognize it.

Ted Rosen's passion for writing and music eventually led him to open the doors of Talent Incorporated.  Now known as New World Publishing, his original goals still hold true today:  to offer the grass-roots, individual songwriter the opportunity to be professionally published and promoted for a fraction of what they would expect to pay elsewhere.  A real opportunity to be professionally produced, published, released, and heard worldwide!

We thank all of you, our gifted songwriters.  Your influence is what makes us who we are today.

I love you Dad...
Your Son,
